Formey had een geschiedenis van de filosofie uit laten brengen door Schneider (in het zelfde jaar als de essays 64 kwam ook een introduction general aux sciences uit van Formey)

Vertaald wellicht door Coste (of Mazel) maar dus ingeleid door Rousset de Missy. margaret jacob verhaalt in “Radicalism in the Dutch enlightenment” in 1992: “From the masonic archives we now know that the most widely circulated edition o the French translation of Locke’s Two Treatises, done in 1755 and reprinted in 1780, 1783 (Without the preface), and 1795, was the work of Rousset de Missy and his masonic brother and Amsterdam-based publisher Johannes Schreuder. What is important about that 1755 edition is the new preface and notes added by Rousset. These are in French, a language most members of the Dutch elite could read, if not speak. […] The new preface is quite specifically tied to the crisis of 1754-55 in the Dutch republic. In those years the fear of yet another French invasion led the regents to retreat from thi obligation o their English allies and to opt for neutrality.[229-230, noot naar “In the Aftermath of Revolution: Rousset de Missy, Fremasonry, and Locke’s Two Treatises of Government”
